My Story
I’ve been overweight all my life. I played sports sporadically and ran from time to time, but nothing was consistent. I also had not idea about the connection between eating well and exercising regularly. By the time I returned to home from studying abroad, I weighed about 230 lbs.
But I didn’t decide to make a change until after my 21st birthday. That night I had gone to a nightclub with my friends and family. It was one of the best nights of my life...that was until I saw the pictures from that night. My stomach in that dress told it the story and the headline read: “Fat on Display!” Those pictures were the reality I never saw until that day. Of course I knew I didn’t have washboard abs, but I at least wanted to look neat in my clothes and I didn’t look neat at all that day.
It was then I knew I had to make a change. I’m a planner so I chose to strategize to give myself the greatest chance of success. I started where most people start when they say they want to lose weight; I went to the gym. Free magazines were available at the campus gym and that gave me the information I needed to move forward.
I first found out that running would be the fastest way for me to lose weight all over my body. I cut off my meal plan in college and actually started cooking. It was there that my love affair with food first began. I was completely hooked. I wanted to challenge myself so I started to train for my first half marathon. Within 1.5 years I lost over 50 lbs! And the challenges continued: kickboxing, dance, and pole dancing (just to name a few). I started watching the Food Network channel to learn cooking techniques as well as foodie inspiration. Creating the lifestyle of the right foods and workouts have changed my life forever.
I believe:
Each journey to a healthy lifestyle is unique. Change starts in the mind and it’s the most powerful tool. Fruits and veggies save lives.

Gossip, laziness, and limiting mindset

After experiencing my own weight loss journey I was inspired to teach others what I’ve learned about holistic health and help others to fuel their bodies. I first decided to receive a certification in holistic nutrition. It completely changed my perspective on how to fuel our bodies. Clean eating 80-90% of the time really helps to fuel the body to perform at its best.
You have to remember that health isn’t just about a number on a scale. It’s learning how to nourish your body to become your best self. Our bodies naturally heal ourselves, we just have to support that with food.
